Eilat Airport, Domestic airport terminal in Eilat, Israel
Eilat Airport was a transportation hub in southern Israel with an asphalt runway approximately 1,900 meters (6,200 feet) long. The facility sat at just 13 meters (43 feet) above sea level and featured basic terminal buildings for handling passenger traffic.
The airport was established in 1949 and became an important connection point for air travel in the region. Arkia Airlines took over operations in 1950 and maintained regular connections to major airports in the north.
The terminal received its name from Yakov Hozman, who founded Arkia Airlines, which became the primary operator at the airport from December 1950.
The airport has been out of service since 2019, with all flights relocated to the new Ramon Airport nearby. Visitors can view the site from outside, though the ground is now designated for other development projects.
The former airport grounds are being transformed into tourism facilities and residential complexes, giving the site a new purpose. This redevelopment shows how coastal cities adapt their infrastructure to changing needs.
