Herzliya, Coastal city in Tel Aviv District, Israel
Herzliya is a coastal city in the Tel Aviv District of Israel with residential neighborhoods, commercial districts, and maritime facilities along the Mediterranean shoreline. The city includes a modern marina, public beaches, and different urban areas that extend from the waterfront inland.
The settlement was founded in 1924 with support from American Zionists and grew into a city over the following decades. The place received its name in honor of Theodor Herzl, who initiated the modern Zionist movement.
Galleries and exhibition spaces display works by Israeli artists, while local studios work on television productions and films. The name honors the founder of political Zionism and appears throughout the cityscape in monuments and street names.
The railway station connects the city to Tel Aviv and Ben Gurion Airport with regular train services during the day. The beaches are publicly accessible and within walking distance from many neighborhoods along the coast.
The Apollonia National Park preserves archaeological remains from several periods, including a Crusader fortress overlooking the sea. The ruins sit on a cliff and show traces of settlements from different eras at a single location.
