Holon, Urban center in Tel Aviv District, Israel
Holon is a city in the Tel Aviv District that spreads south of the larger neighbor, combining residential areas with commercial spaces and industrial zones. Streets mostly follow a grid pattern, with several parks and public squares scattered between the housing blocks.
In 1935, Jewish immigrants from Łódź founded a textile settlement on the sand dunes south of Jaffa. The growing community received official recognition as a separate municipality in 1940 and developed into a larger city in the following decades.
The neighborhood of Neve Pinchas is home to one of only two Samaritan communities in the world, living here since 1954. This small religious group maintains its own traditions and operates a synagogue that visitors can sometimes arrange to see by appointment.
Two railway stations, Holon-Wolfson and Holon Junction, connect the city with Tel Aviv and other major destinations in the region. Pedestrians find most public buildings and cultural facilities along the main streets in the center.
The cityscape still shows the industrial past through several former textile factories now converted into cultural centers or residential spaces. Some of the original brick buildings stand alongside newer structures and recall the origins of the settlement.
