Jason's Tomb, Ancient Jewish tomb in Rehavia, Jerusalem.

Jason's Tomb is an ancient Jewish burial chamber in Jerusalem's Rehavia neighborhood built with a central courtyard, burial chamber, and Doric-style entrance column. Inside, eight niches line the walls for multiple burials, and a separate room at the front held skeletal remains when space was needed.

This burial chamber was built during the Hasmonean period in the first century BCE, as the inscriptions confirm. It was discovered in 1956 during construction work and has remained an important record of how people were buried at that time.

The inscription walls in Greek and Aramaic tell you how different peoples lived together in ancient Jerusalem and influenced each other's customs.

The site sits between Alfasi Street and Sderot Ben Maimon in a residential area where street access is straightforward. The interior is compact and confined, so visitors should expect tight spaces and low ceilings when entering.

The bone storage chamber in front of the main burial room was an unusual setup that shows how families reused the same tomb over time to make space for new burials. This practice kept relatives together while adapting to practical burial needs.
