The temple is attributed to king Narasingha deva I of the Eastern Ganga Dynasty about 1250 CE.

It's a UNESCO World Heritage site and a major tourist attraction in India.
The temple is designed as a chariot consisting of 24 wheels, each about 10 feet in diameter, with a set of spokes and elaborate carvings.
