Three massive black basalt rock formations rise 66 meters from the Atlantic Ocean against the backdrop of Mount Reynisfjall and Reynisfjara beach.

The rock formations originated during a volcanic eruption beneath a glacier in the penultimate Ice Age, creating layers of tuff and pillow lava.

Local folklore narrates that two trolls attempted to pull a ship to land but turned to stone when sunlight touched them at dawn.

Visitors must maintain a distance of 30 meters from the water's edge due to dangerous sneaker waves that have caused previous fatalities.

Between April and August, the cliffs become a nesting ground for numerous seabirds, including puffins, guillemots, fulmars, and kittiwakes.
