Gemona del Friuli

The town extends at 272 meters elevation along the Prealpi Giulie slopes, featuring stone buildings and narrow streets in its historical center.

The settlement dates back to 500 BCE with Celtic tribes, later becoming a Lombard stronghold in 558 CE and receiving market rights from Emperor Frederick Barbarossa in 1184.

The Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta displays Romanesque-Gothic architecture with a tall bell tower and houses notable medieval artworks and frescoes.

The railway station connects Gemona del Friuli to major cities, while numerous accommodations and restaurants serve regional specialties throughout the town center.

The reconstruction after the 1976 earthquake preserved original architectural elements, recovering ancient frescoes and maintaining traditional building techniques.
