Originally built in 1457 for the Pitti family, it was later bought by the Medici family and became the chief residence of the ruling families of the Grand Duchy of Tuscany.
Today, it houses several important museums and art galleries, including the Palatine Gallery and the Royal Apartments.
It's open to the public with various ticket options available.
The palace's Boboli Gardens are considered one of the first formal 16th-century Italian gardens.
