Pandosia

Pandosia is an ancient city near Tursi with ruins and finds from different time periods spread across the landscape. The remains show structures of residential areas, defensive walls, and public spaces from various phases of settlement.

The city was founded in the 8th century BC by Ionian Greeks and grew during the classical and Hellenistic periods. Later it was resettled under Roman rule and remained inhabited until the decline of antiquity.

The finds at Pandosia show how Greeks, Romans, and local inhabitants lived together, visible in pottery, coins, and building remains scattered across the site. This blend of cultures appears in every artifact that archaeologists uncover here.

The site is located near Tursi and can be reached by marked paths from the town center. A visit is best done during daylight hours, and the local tourism office provides information about guided tours.

Its location between the Agri and Sinni rivers made the city a key hub connecting inland regions with coastal ports through ancient trade routes. This strategic position enabled economic exchange and cultural contact with distant communities.
