The cathedral features three naves with massive pillars, cubic capitals, and elegant four-light windows throughout its women's galleries.
Construction began in 1150 under architect Benedetto Antelami, incorporating ancient pillars and surviving the 1268 destruction of the town.
The cathedral displays intricate sculptural works depicting biblical scenes, prophets, and the life of Saint Domninus across its portals.
Two staircases near the altar lead visitors to the crypt containing Saint Domninus relics, while guided tours explain the architectural elements.
The central portal includes a statue of Saint Peter pointing toward Rome, serving as a reference point for medieval pilgrims on Via Francigena.
