Horses of Saint Mark, Bronze statues in Venice
The Horses of Saint Mark are four bronze statues located in Venice, Italy.
Originally part of the Hippodrome of Constantinople, they were looted by Venetian forces in the Fourth Crusade in 1204.
They represent a significant symbol of the power and prestige of Venice in its heyday.
Today, the original statues are preserved in the interior of St. Mark's Basilica, while replicas adorn the exterior.
They are among the few surviving examples of ancient Roman statuary horse.
