Abbazia di Sassovivo, Benedictine abbey on Mount Serrone, Foligno, Italy.

The Sassovivo Abbey stands at 565 meters above sea level, surrounded by seven hectares of ancient holm oak forest within a protected regional area.

Founded in 1070 by Benedictine hermits led by monk Mainardo, the abbey expanded to control 97 monasteries, 41 churches, and 7 hospitals by the 12th century.

The marble cloister, completed in 1232 by Pietro di Maria, features alternating smooth and spiral columns supporting intricately carved stone arches.

The abbey opens daily from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM, with temporary closures of the crypt, garden, and church during religious functions and prayer times.

A mineral water spring near the abbey in Fonte di Sassovivo supplies water that local companies bottle and distribute throughout the region.
