Salse di Nirano natural reserve

The reserve features cold mud volcanoes that form cone-shaped structures through the continuous emission of salt water mixed with methane gas.

Archaeological discoveries around the mud volcanoes indicate human presence and scientific interest in these geological formations since ancient Roman times.

The Ca' Tassi visitor center houses a museum, laboratory, and exhibition spaces dedicated to environmental education and geological research.

Visitors can explore 13 different paths equipped with educational panels, while the center operates from 10:00 to 16:00 in winter and 9:00 to 19:00 in summer.

The reserve contains the largest complex of mud volcanoes in Italy, where cold methane gas creates eruptions of saline mud without any connection to magmatic activity.
