Ginkaku-ji, Buddhist temple in Kyoto, Japan
Ginkaku-ji, also known as the Temple of the Silver Pavilion, is a Zen temple in the Sakyo ward of Kyoto, Japan.
Originally built in 1482 by Ashikaga Yoshimasa, the eighth shogun of the Ashikaga Shogunate, Ginkaku-ji was intended to emulate the golden Kinkaku-ji.
The temple represents the Higashiyama Culture of the Muromachi period.
It's open to the public and it's one of the most visited tourist spots in Kyoto.
Despite its name 'Silver Pavilion', the temple was never covered in silver.
