Kazuno, City in northeast Akita Prefecture, Japan.

Kazuno is a city in the northeast of Akita Prefecture that spreads across hilly country in the Hanawa Basin along the Yoneshiro River. Many streams cross the landscape, shaped by forested slopes and scattered waterfalls.

People settled this area as early as the Jomon period, as shown by archaeological sites. The Nambu clan later governed the territory during the Edo period and shaped its development.

Families here still tend hillside orchards where apples, pears and cherries ripen during the growing season. The local market in autumn shows fruits that speak to this community's long connection to farming.

The Hanawa Line of East Japan Railway Company connects the city through stations at Yuze-Onsen and Kazuno-Hanawa, offering links to the regional rail network. Travelers can also reach the area via the Tohoku Expressway that runs nearby.

The Oyu Stone Circles within the city are among Japan's most important prehistoric monuments from the late Jomon period. Visitors see large stones arranged in circular patterns whose original purpose still raises questions today.
