Iiyama, Mountain city in northern Nagano, Japan

Iiyama stretches across 202 square kilometers of mountainous terrain, featuring the Chikuma River flowing through its center and dense forests covering the surrounding slopes.

The region transformed from the Iiyama Domain centered around Iiyama Castle during the Edo period to an official city status through municipal mergers in 1954.

The Buddhist Altar Street displays traditional craftsmanship with numerous specialized workshops creating intricate religious furniture according to ancient techniques.

The Hokuriku Shinkansen connects Iiyama to major cities, while electric bikes available at the station provide convenient transportation for exploring local attractions.
