Nijō Castle is a flatland castle located in Kyoto, Japan.
The castle was built in 1603 as the residence of Tokugawa Ieyasu, the first shogun of the Edo Period.
It's known for its well-preserved Ninomaru Palace filled with ornate interiors and beautiful gardens.
The castle is open to the public and it's a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Its 'nightingale floors' chirp when walked upon to protect the occupants from sneak attacks and assassins.
