Eihei-ji, Buddhist temple in Japan
Eihei-ji is one of two main temples of the Soto school of Zen Buddhism, the largest single religious denomination in Japan.
Founded by Eihei Dogen in 1244, it has functioned continuously for over 770 years.
The temple complex includes a training monastery with over 200 practicing monks.
It's open to visitors year-round and offers temple lodging for those interested in experiencing monastic life.
Despite its name meaning 'Temple of Eternal Peace', it's also known as a 'temple of unending training'.
