Mount Ashitaka is a 1,504-meter tall mountain located in Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan.
The mountain was once considered sacred and was off-limits to women until the Meiji period.
It's featured in many Japanese legends and is believed to be the dwelling place of gods.
The mountain offers hiking trails with panoramic views of Mount Fuji.
Mount Ashitaka is home to a rare species of beetle, the Lucanus maculifemoratus.
