Wonsan

Wonsan is a port city on the eastern coast of North Korea in Kangwon Province, stretching along a deep bay. Industrial zones, residential districts, and leisure areas spread on both sides of the coastline.

The harbor settlement developed into a major trading center along the Korean eastern coast during the 1880s. After the Korean War, the place served as an entry point for tens of thousands of Koreans returning from Japan.

The cityscape shows wide avenues with Soviet-era architecture from the second half of the 20th century running through the center. Residential blocks with colorful facades stand next to administrative buildings and public squares.

The city sits on rail lines that allow connections inland and across the border into Russia. Maritime traffic runs through the harbor, which remains accessible for cargo ships and other commercial vessels.

The local agricultural college operates greenhouses equipped with solar panels for energy generation. These facilities serve research and development in plant production methods.
