Yanggakdo Stadium

Yanggakdo Stadium is a sports facility on Yanggak Island in the Taedong River that once hosted athletic events and matches. The complex had capacity for up to 30,000 spectators and included areas dedicated to boxing, wrestling, swimming, and multiple training pitches.

The stadium opened in 1989 and served as a home venue for North Korean national football matches and competitions. Starting in 2017, the facility underwent substantial renovation work that significantly altered its original structure.

The facility includes dedicated areas for traditional Korean martial arts training, along with spaces for boxing, wrestling, and swimming activities.

The location sits on an island and is best reached via bridges or ferry connections from the city. Visitors should note that the site is currently undergoing transformation work and may have limited access.

The running track and original seating were completely removed during renovations, severing the venue from its earlier purpose. This dramatic transformation reflects shifting priorities in urban planning.
