Xayaburi Dam spans 810 meters across the Mekong River, with eight turbine-generators producing power for regional distribution. The facility creates a large reservoir to regulate water flow and electricity generation throughout the year.
Construction began in 2012 following negotiations with neighboring countries and marked the first major hydroelectric project on the lower Mekong River. This development permanently changed the region and Laos's position as a power generator in Asia.
