Lithuanian Museum of Ancient Beekeeping, Beekeeping museum in Stripeikiai, Lithuania
The Lithuanian Museum of Ancient Beekeeping is housed across six buildings in Stripeikiai and displays around 500 items related to beekeeping traditions. The collection includes traditional tools, equipment, and transparent hives where visitors can observe living bee colonies.
Founded in 1984 by beekeeper Bronius Kazlas, the institution preserves beekeeping methods that trace back to the 15th century. Tree trunk hives in the collection demonstrate the early techniques people used to keep bees.
The wooden carvings scattered across the grounds depict figures from beekeeping folklore and were created by local artisans. They reveal traditional beliefs and stories that people told about bees and their keepers.
The museum is located within Aukstaitija National Park and welcomes guests from spring through autumn on weekdays and weekends during daytime hours. Most of the experience involves walking between buildings and outdoor spaces, so comfortable shoes and weather-appropriate clothing are helpful.
In 2005 the museum received three functioning beehives as a diplomatic gift from Ukraine's president to Lithuania's president. This unusual present reflected the connection between the two nations through a shared ancient craft.
