Vilnius Airport, International airport in Vilnius, Lithuania
Vilnius Airport is an international air terminal with a glass and steel terminal building housing departure and arrival halls across multiple levels. The facility operates a runway stretching 2,515 meters, surrounded by fields and low woodland.
Air connections between Vilnius and Warsaw started here in 1932 under the name Wilno-Porubanek. After interruptions during World War II, civilian flight operations resumed at the site in 1944.
The airport takes its name from the original location in Kirtimai, a suburb south of the city center. Today travelers walking through the halls notice contemporary artworks by Lithuanian artists installed between waiting areas.
Reaching the city center takes around eight minutes by train or via regular bus lines departing in front of the terminal building. Signage throughout the complex appears in Lithuanian, English and Russian to help with orientation.
An expansion underway since 2023 brings a new departure terminal set to raise capacity from February 2025 onward. The construction includes additional gates and enlarged security areas for growing passenger numbers.
