Dubingiai Castle, Medieval castle ruins in Dubingiai, Lithuania

Dubingiai Castle are the ruins of a medieval fortress on a peninsula extending into Lake Asveja, featuring foundation walls and underground cellars from its original structure. The archaeological remains show how a defended residence was built during the medieval period.

Grand Duke Vytautas founded the first stone fortress in 1413 to defend Vilnius against attacks from Livonia during medieval conflicts. Later, the site was expanded into a grand Renaissance residence under the Radziwiłł family.

The Radziwiłł family shaped this place through their power and influence over centuries, making it a center of cultural and political importance in the region. The family's presence left marks on how people understood leadership and property in medieval Lithuania.

The site can be explored on foot, allowing visitors to see the foundation walls and underground rooms that show the original building methods. The best time to visit is during drier months when the ground is more stable and views are clearer.

During excavations in 2004, remains of Radziwiłł family members were discovered and ceremonially reburied at the site in 2009. This repatriation was a symbolic gesture honoring the family's long presence at the location.
