Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary, Labanoras, Catholic church in Labanoras, Lithuania
The Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary is a wooden structure in Labanoras defined by seven rectangular and three semicircular windows combined with vertical pilasters. These elements create the building's classical architectural character and define its visual presence.
The building first appears in Vilnius diocese records from 1522, showing a long Christian presence in the region. After a fire, it was rebuilt in 1820 using funds from local believers.
The church holds religious paintings depicting the twelve apostles and a venerated image of Mary that remain central to the community's spiritual life today. Visitors can experience these artworks in their devotional context and see how they continue to inspire the faithful.
The building sits along route 114 between Moletai and Ignalina and is easily accessible from the road. When visiting, be aware the interior may host religious services or private gatherings that could affect access.
The attached bell tower features three tapering levels with wooden beam ceilings and houses a bronze bell cast in 1805. This old bell is among the oldest metal pieces at the site and shows the craftsmanship of that era.
