Šatrija

Šatrija is an ancient hillfort in the Luokė region with steep slopes rising to 229 meters. At the summit sits a rectangular fortification platform measuring approximately 40 by 60 meters.

This hillfort originated in the pre-Christian period and served to protect early Lithuanian communities. Archaeological digs in 1984 and 2009 uncovered weapons, tools, jewelry, and pottery from the first to second millennium.

According to regional folklore, this elevated site served as a meeting location for Lithuanian witches and held significance for pre-Christian religious ceremonies point.

The hill is accessible via walking path and offers views across the surrounding landscape from the top. Bring sturdy footwear since the terrain can be slippery and uneven in places.

The fortification features two defensive ramparts, with the main structure standing about 2 meters tall and stretching 16 meters across. This double defensive line reveals the strategic importance this location held in ancient times.
