Kavarsko tvenkinys, reservoir in Lithuania
Kavarsko tvenkinys is a reservoir in the Šventoji River valley in the Anykščiai region of Lithuania. The water body stretches long and winds through the landscape, bordered by forests on all sides, with small wooded islands dotting its surface and varying shoreline elevations.
The reservoir was created in 1962 with the construction of a dam about four meters high. A hydroelectric power station was built next to the dam in 2002 and continues to generate electricity for local communities and farms today.
The name comes from the nearby town of Kavarskas. The shorelines are lined with forests where locals and visitors have long enjoyed quiet walks and fishing, activities that are woven into daily life in this rural region.
Several access points along the shore allow visitors to launch boats and find peaceful spots to rest. The best visiting season extends from early summer through late autumn when water conditions are favorable and weather is pleasant.
The reservoir contains two small wooded islands that provide quiet spaces for birds and insects and offer visitors a rare natural experience. These islands remain difficult to access, preserving their wild character.
