Kalnaberžė Manor

Kalnaberžė is a manor built in the Gothic Revival style, standing in a forested landscape near the Nevėžis river in central Lithuania. The building displays characteristic pointed arches and detailed stonework typical of this architectural approach.

The estate belonged to the powerful Radziwiłł family in the 1500s and later came under the ownership of the Czapski and Stolypin families. The structure evolved from a noble residence to serve other purposes during the 20th century.

The manor shows how Lithuanian nobility blended local building traditions with European styles, creating a structure that belonged to one of the region's most powerful families. Its design reflects the daily life and status of the aristocracy who lived there.

The location sits in a quiet rural setting surrounded by several protected natural areas, including Krekenava Regional Park and the Kruostas botanical sanctuary nearby. Visitors should know that the area is relatively remote and best reached with personal transportation.

The manor was converted into a children's detention facility during the 1920s, a purpose it served until 1959. This lesser-known chapter from the 20th century adds an unexpected dimension to the former noble estate's story.
