Rietavas Manor, Neoclassical manor house in Rietavas, Lithuania.
Rietavas Manor is a neoclassical noble residence in Lithuania with numerous preserved outbuildings and extensive parkland. The property includes a water tower, guard house, two gate structures, the Ogiński Family Chapel, and quarters for musicians.
The manor came into the possession of the influential Ogiński family in 1812, who extensively modernized and expanded it. Under their stewardship until 1909, the estate became a significant cultural center of the region.
The manor served as a hub for musical instruction and orchestral performances under Bogdan Ogiński's direction. Musicians and composers who lived and worked here left a lasting mark on the nation's musical development.
The manor foundation remains visible while many outbuildings and the surrounding park are accessible to visitors. Allow time to explore the various structures scattered across the grounds and walk through the parkland.
The estate was Lithuania's first site with electricity when Oginski had a private power station installed in 1892. A decade earlier in 1882, Lithuania's first telephone line was laid here, breaking through the isolation of the rural property.
