Mănăstirea Nicoreni, Orthodox monastery in Nicoreni, Moldova.
Mănăstirea Nicoreni is an Orthodox monastery built on the grounds of a former children's camp, featuring two residential buildings, a main structure, and multiple religious spaces. The complex provides areas for worship, accommodation, and spiritual practice all within its grounds.
The monastery was founded in 1992 by Archimandrite Rafail Bodiu on the site of a children's summer camp that operated from 1975 to 1991. This transformation of a Soviet recreation facility into a spiritual space marked a significant shift in Moldova after the Soviet era ended.
The monastery holds a significant collection of religious books and ecclesiastical texts, mostly in Russian, that shape the spiritual life of the community. These materials are central to the daily practice of monks and visitors alike.
The monastery is located roughly 12 kilometers west of Drochia and about 180 kilometers from Chisinau, making it accessible for day trips from larger towns. It holds daily services including morning prayers and liturgy, so visitors should plan to arrive early if they wish to attend these observances.
The summer church features a two-level structure with three altars on each floor, an unusual arrangement that blends Russian and local architectural elements. This double-altar configuration allows simultaneous services to be held on different levels.
