Cricova, Underground winery in Cricova, Moldova

The cellars extend over 70 kilometers of underground passages, reaching depths of 80 meters below ground where thousands of wine bottles mature in controlled conditions.

Established in 1952, two Moldovan wine experts, Petru Ungureanu and Nicolae Sobolev, transformed former limestone quarries into wine storage facilities.

The Moldovan Parliament designated Cricova as a Cultural-National Heritage site in 2003, recognizing its contribution to wine production traditions.

Tours operate daily with multilingual guides leading visitors through underground passages, offering wine tastings in five themed rooms with traditional Moldovan cuisine.

The cellars house 1.3 million bottles, including a collection that belonged to German Field Marshal Hermann Göring during World War II.
