Orhei National Park, National park in central Moldova
Orhei National Park is a protected area covering approximately 33,000 hectares across four Moldovan districts, featuring forests, hills, valleys, and the meandering Răut River. The terrain blends natural landscapes with multiple archaeological sites and historical structures.
Established in 2013 as Moldova's first national park, the area contains medieval archaeological remains and ancient settlements from the Golden Horde period. These findings document multiple phases of settlement and rule across the centuries.
Five Orthodox monasteries dot the territory, including Old Orhei and Curchi, alongside four noble estates and a folk crafts museum in Ivancea. These sites reflect the religious and aristocratic heritage that shaped the region.
Multiple marked routes accommodate different modes of travel, from motor vehicles to bicycles and hiking trails, connecting various natural and cultural sites throughout the park. Choose your route based on available time and physical ability.
The area supports over 700 plant species from 334 genera, including 52 rare varieties protected by international conservation standards. This botanical diversity makes it a refuge for flora rarely found elsewhere in the region.
