Pădurea Domnească

Pădurea Domnească is a nature reserve spanning across two districts along the Prut River in Moldova. The landscape features floodplain forests, wetlands, and diverse plant communities across its terrain.

The reserve was established in 1993 to protect this important natural area. Later, European bison were brought from Polish parks to restore a population that had disappeared.

The reserve is a place where researchers study rare plants and animals in their natural setting. Visitors come here to experience the diversity of wildlife and forest ecosystems firsthand.

The site can be explored on foot, with walking trails leading to natural landmarks like a gorge and limestone formations. Start early in the day and wear suitable footwear, as some paths cross wetland areas.

Ancient oak trees in this area can live for several centuries and grow to remarkable heights. These enormous trees serve as home to rare bird and mammal species found nowhere else nearby.
