Suruceni Monastery

Suruceni Monastery is a monastic complex in rural Moldova featuring two Orthodox churches set on monastery grounds that spread across the surrounding landscape. The compound stands approximately 22 kilometers from Chisinau and serves as the home and workplace for a community of nuns.

This monastery was founded in 1785 as an Orthodox spiritual community in the Ialoveni district and has endured through centuries of regional change. Its founding marked the establishment of a significant religious center that would shape local spiritual life for generations.

The monastery remains an active place of prayer and Orthodox ritual today, with its community of nuns maintaining daily spiritual practices that give the place its living character. The Church of Saint Nicholas was consecrated in 2016 and represents a modern architectural addition to the centuries-old monastic site. This newer church shows how the community continues to grow and adapt while maintaining connection to its ancient spiritual roots.
