Crn Vrv, Mountain peak in Shar Mountains, North Macedonia
Crn Vrv is a mountain peak in the Shar Mountains located at about 2,585 meters elevation, positioned between the peaks of Peskovi and Kobilica. Grassland and coniferous forests cover the slopes, creating distinct natural zones on the mountainside.
This peak served as a natural boundary marker between different regions for centuries, shaping movement and settlement patterns in the area. Its position influenced how people traversed and inhabited the surrounding landscape.
Local shepherds graze their flocks on the mountain pastures surrounding this peak, maintaining farming practices that shape the landscape. This ongoing use connects the land to communities living in the surrounding valleys.
The climb to the summit starts from Mountain Hut Smreka, following a trail of roughly 5 kilometers through grassland and coniferous forests. The upper sections become steeper and more exposed as you approach the peak.
In the final kilometer of the climb, the ridge changes character in a striking way: one side features sharp rocky formations while the opposite slopes down in gentle grassland. This contrast creates a memorable transition as you emerge from the forests onto the exposed summit ridge.
