Младост, lake in North Macedonia
Mladost is an artificial lake in North Macedonia created by damming the Otovica River and located near the town of Veles. The lake stretches approximately 1.5 kilometers in length, reaches up to 500 meters in width, and has a maximum depth of 25 meters with a surface area of roughly 0.5 square kilometers.
The lake was created through the construction of a concrete dam on the Otovica River to support irrigation for agricultural lands surrounding Veles. The region has a long tradition of farming, particularly vineyard cultivation, which benefits from this water management project.
The lake serves the local community as a gathering place where families and friends come to spend time together and unwind from daily life. It holds significance for the region as a recreational space where people connect with nature and with each other.
The area features walking and cycling paths around the shoreline for visitors to explore the surroundings at their own pace. There are benches and observation platforms for birdwatching, with access available year-round for outdoor activities like walking and biking.
The Smart Lake project blends modern technology with green infrastructure, featuring benches equipped with solar panels for charging devices and free internet access for visitors. This combination of nature and smart technology makes the location an unusual example of sustainable recreation in the region.
