Jeni Mosque

Jeni Mosque is an Ottoman structure featuring a central dome flanked by smaller semi-domes, with walls built from alternating layers of brick and stone throughout. Today it houses an art museum within its original religious space, creating a dual-purpose cultural venue.

Built in 1558 during Ottoman rule, the structure represents the architectural achievements of that era. It exemplifies the construction styles that shaped religious buildings throughout the Balkan region.

The mosque now functions as an art museum, displaying contemporary works that stand in contrast to its Islamic architecture. This blend creates an unusual meeting point between religious tradition and modern creativity within the same walls.

The site welcomes visitors during daytime hours and allows exploration of both the original prayer space and the art displays. Appropriate dress should be worn when entering, particularly when viewing the religious areas.
