Trebeništa, Archaeological necropolis in Debarca Municipality, North Macedonia
Located at an elevation of 710 meters, Trebeništa contains burial grounds that reveal ancient practices from Iron Age communities in North Macedonia.
Bulgarian soldiers discovered this archaeological site in 1918, leading to excavations under archaeologist Karel Škorpil, who documented important regional artifacts.
The necropolis holds remains dating back to the 7th century BC, connected to inhabitants of ancient Lychnidos, now modern-day Ohrid region.
Visitors can reach the site through Ohrid St. Paul the Apostle Airport, which is situated approximately two miles from the archaeological grounds.
The excavated area includes numerous burial sites containing artifacts that demonstrate the technological capabilities of Iron Age metalworking in the region.
