Bylazora, Archaeological site in Sveti Nikole Municipality, North Macedonia.
Bylazora is an ancient city site in Sveti Nikole Municipality, situated on a natural plateau with multiple excavation zones. Stone walls, building foundations, and residential structures are visible across the terrain, revealing the spatial organization of the former settlement.
The settlement was the largest Paeonian center until 217 BC, when Philip V of Macedonia conquered it to block Dardanian advances. This conquest changed the course of the settlement's development.
The pottery and metal objects found here reveal how people once lived and worked in this ancient settlement. These everyday items show the skill and knowledge of those who inhabited this place centuries ago.
The site is accessible through the nearby village of Knežje and the excavation areas can be explored during daylight hours. Wear sturdy footwear, as the terrain is uneven and can be challenging to navigate.
The elevated plateau position gave residents strategic control over ancient trade routes linking Macedonia, Thrace, and the Dardanian lands. This geographic advantage made it a vital crossroads for commerce and movement across the ancient world.
