Villa Francia

Villa Francia is a Palladian-style residence in Lija featuring symmetrical proportions, a central hall, and stone balustrades throughout its layout. The estate includes formal gardens separated into front and back sections that spread across the property.

Francesco Preziosi built this residence in 1757 but soon faced money problems that forced him to sell. The Order of St. John acquired the property, marking a change in how it was used and managed.

The villa shows what wealthy Maltese families valued in the 1700s, blending Italian architectural ideas with local traditions. Walking through the rooms and gardens reveals how people of that time lived and what they considered beautiful and important.

The property underwent major restoration work supported by European funding and is now open for guided tours and educational visits. Visitors can explore the building and learn about its architectural features and historical significance.
