Church of St Anne, Fort St Elmo

The Church of St Anne stands in Fort St Elmo's main courtyard with a narrow front and a barrel-vaulted interior featuring a coffered ceiling. The space has been converted into a memorial area displaying items that honor those lost during military conflicts.

The original chapel dates from the 15th century and served as a defensive position during the Ottoman siege of 1565. It survived that conflict and was later repurposed as a memorial space for World War II losses.

The building serves as a memorial to those who defended Malta, with military decorations and a remembrance ledger honoring World War II casualties. Visitors can feel the weight of history as they move through the chapel's solemn interior.

The chapel is accessed through Fort St Elmo's main entrance and features wheelchair-accessible doors for all visitors. Visiting hours follow the fort's schedule, so planning ahead makes the visit smoother.

Inside the chapel hangs a 15th-century image of the Madonna and Child linked to the Battle of Lepanto and the Knights' naval history. This precious artwork connects the space to one of the Mediterranean's most important maritime moments.
