Lely's Column

The 32-meter tall column stands in the center of Lelystad, featuring a bronze statue of Cornelis Lely at its summit.

The column, completed in 2002, incorporates a 1954 casting by Mari Andriessen after the original sculptor Piet Esser withdrew from the project.

The monument represents the transformation of the IJsselmeer region through water management and urban development initiated by Cornelis Lely.

Visitors can reach the column by following directional signs from Lelystad central station to the main square of Stadhuisplein.

The basalt construction materials of the column mirror the materials used in the dikes that protect Lelystad from the sea.
