The Belgian Pilot Houses consist of four white-plastered buildings adorned with geometric red decorations and distinctive iron railings on their bay windows.
In 1910, Belgian maritime pilots commissioned architect P.F. Smagge, born in Vlissingen and raised in Antwerp, to design these residential buildings.
Each villa bears the name of a Belgian pilot's child - Louise, Maria, Blanche, and Yvonne - representing numbers 59 through 65 on Spuistraat.
The buildings stand as architectural landmarks along Spuistraat, offering visitors insights into early 20th-century Dutch-Belgian maritime connections.
The buildings feature high corner sections with cast iron fencing on their bay windows, displaying geometric patterns painted in red on white facades.
