The Russian Monument features a white Carrara marble cross mounted on three blocks of Swedish granite, surrounded by six stone pillars connected with bronze chains.
The monument marks the burial site of 500 Russian soldiers who died during the Battle of Bergen on September 19, 1799, fighting against French-Batavian forces.
Golden Cyrillic letters on the monument commemorate the Russian warriors who fell during two battles in Bergen, following the Julian calendar dates of the time.
Located at the intersection of Russenweg and Notweg, this memorial site provides visitors with insights into the military engagements of the Second Coalition War.
The mass grave beneath the monument contains approximately 560 soldiers, while an additional 600 Russian soldiers rest under the Russenduin dune in Bergen aan Zee.
