Sámi Parliament of Norway

The Norwegian government established the Sámi Parliament in 1989 following years of advocacy by the Norwegian Sámi Council formed in 1964.

The institution includes 39 representatives elected every four years from seven constituencies across Norway, with meetings conducted four times annually.

Located in an area where 80 percent of residents speak Sámi languages, the parliament functions as an autonomous body representing indigenous interests in Norway.
