Kongsberg Municipality

Kongsberg Municipality stretches along the Numedalslågen river through forested valleys and mountain terrain. The municipality connects to Oslo via the E134 highway and regular train services for residents and travelers.

A Danish-Norwegian king discovered silver deposits here and established the settlement in 1624, which then developed as a mining center. Silver extraction shaped the local economy for about three centuries.

The local church houses the largest baroque organ in Scandinavia and attracts music enthusiasts from across the region. An annual jazz festival brings international performers to town and creates a lively music scene throughout the year.

Visitors can best reach the town by car or train, both offering good connections to Oslo. The area is walkable, and the river offers opportunities for outdoor activities in the surrounding forests.

The national mint produces coins here for Norway and other countries, continuing a long tradition of metalworking. This modern facility replaced the earlier silver mining operations that once dominated the region.
