Drammen Municipality

Drammen Municipality is an administrative area in the Viken region that stretches along both banks of the Drammenselva river, including several smaller towns such as Konnerud, Svelvik, Mjøndalen, and Skoger. The area combines urban neighborhoods with denser buildings and rural zones marked by forests and hills that extend toward the fjord.

Three separate seaports called Bragernes, Strømsø, and Tangen joined together in 1811 to form a single market town. During the 20th century, the area expanded several times by absorbing neighboring territories.

The Drammen Museum network maintains multiple locations throughout the municipality, presenting exhibitions about local heritage and Norwegian traditions.

Five train stations connect the area with Oslo and other Norwegian cities, while a dense bus network also reaches the more distant parts of town. Most public facilities and shops sit along the main roads on either side of the river.

The area received a national prize in 2003 for turning former industrial sites into housing and green spaces. Today, you can walk along the riverbank where factories and warehouses once stood.
