Ypsilon, Cable-stayed footbridge in Drammen Municipality, Norway.

Ypsilon is a modern steel footbridge crossing the Drammenselva river with a central supporting tower at its core. The structure features three separate spans that meet at a central point, creating its distinctive Y-shaped layout when viewed from above.

The bridge opened in 2008 and was designed to directly connect two major parts of the city. It represented a key infrastructure development that changed how residents crossed the river.

The bridge links key community spaces and serves as a daily crossing for residents moving between different parts of the city. It has become a place where people stop to take in the river views while traveling from one side to the other.

The bridge is open to both pedestrians and cyclists with clear, level pathways on both sides. It is best visited during daylight hours to fully enjoy the river views and surrounding landscape.

The structure earned a European Steel Bridge Award in 2008 for its innovative engineering design. This recognition highlighted the technical sophistication embedded in its distinctive Y-shaped form.
