Sandnes Municipality

Sandnes Municipality is a coastal region in Rogaland that extends northeast of Stavanger, forming a substantial urban area together with the harbor city. It encompasses several settlements and is crosscut by an extensive network of bicycle paths.

The municipality came into being as a separate administrative unit in 1861 with roughly 440 residents and grew through the incorporation of neighboring territories over time. Its development was driven largely by local pottery manufacturing.

The coat of arms features a white pottery piece set against green, honoring the ceramics tradition that shaped industrial life for generations. This craft heritage remains part of how the place sees itself today.

The bicycle network is well-developed and makes moving through the area easy and practical. Visitors should prepare for changeable coastal weather and dress comfortably for active exploration.
